Modernist UK techno and bass, hypnotic all-night sets with driving low-end weight

Batu, the alias of producer Omar McCutcheon, is a DJ and producer based in Bristol, England, and the founder of the Timedance record label. He built his reputation on a distinctive strain of modernist, experimental UK techno that draws on dubstep, dub, and the wider UK bass continuum, with releases on labels including Hessle Audio, Livity Sound, and XL Recordings alongside his own imprint. His 2022 debut album Opal expanded his sound design into broader territory, and his 2026 collaborative album Exhale with Donato Dozzy leaned into deep, hypnotic minimal techno. His DJ work spans the international club and festival circuit, with sets at Glastonbury, Dekmantel Festival, Sonar, and Unsound, multiple Boiler Room appearances, and a residency at Nowadays through its Nonstop series, and he hosts a show on NTS Radio. Known for building trust with a crowd across long, all-night sets, Batu remains one of the defining voices in contemporary UK club music.
