Based in New York City, Doula is an experimental sound designer, vocalist, and DJ who operates at the intersection of avant-garde processing and club music. Her practice involves disfiguring voice and instrument into raw signal expressions, often challenging traditional notions of aesthetic and form. As a resident and curatorial collaborator for the SILLAGE event series and label, she focuses on improvisation and alternative archival sonic practices. Her DJ sets are known for being intense and unpredictable, frequently layering textures from global dance traditions while disregarding standard expectations of genre or tempo. She is a prominent figure within the local queer and underground nightlife circuit, regularly performing at venues such as Mood Ring and Bossa Nova Civic Club.
