Floating Points is Sam Shepherd, a British producer, DJ and composer from Manchester, England, now based in London. Trained as a neuroscientist, he built his reputation on genre-spanning sets that move through disco, boogie, soul, house, jazz and techno, almost always on vinyl. His studio catalog spans the albums Elaenia, Crush and Cascade, alongside Promises, an acclaimed collaboration with the jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra. He runs the Pluto label and has recorded for Ninja Tune. He is known for long, deep, open-to-close performances, among them a widely shared five hour vinyl marathon for Boiler Room in New York. A meticulous selector with an immense record collection, he remains one of dance music's most respected DJs.
