Born in Brooklyn, New York, and currently based in Queens, Jovonn is a foundational producer and DJ within the East Coast deep house and garage house underground. He reached international audiences with the 1991 Warner Bros. release "Turn and Runaway" and later cemented his club legacy through tracks like "Back in the Dark" alongside DJ Deep, while operating his own imprints Goldtone Records, NextMoov, and Body 'N Deep. His signature aesthetic relies on gritty drum programming, hard kicks, jazzy chord progressions, and his own distinctive vocal delivery. A regular presence on the international touring circuit, he frequently commands the decks at institutions like Berghain in Berlin, fabric in London, and MAD Radio in New York City. Recent years have seen him issue a steady stream of material on the relaunched Nu Groove Records, alongside the 2024 "I Am Music EP" on Body 'N Deep ahead of a forthcoming full-length album.
