Kapote is the DJ and production alias of Mathias Modica, the Berlin music maker who founded the Toy Tonics label. As a producer he makes warm, jazz and funk infused house and lofi disco, built from vintage keyboards, drum machines and snippets of rare records. Through Toy Tonics he has championed a new European wave of disco and organic house, releasing key artists like Coeo, Cody Currie and Sam Ruffillo and running the touring Toy Tonics Jam parties. His DJ sets connect rare old funk and disco with contemporary soulful house, and he is a regular across clubs like Berghain, Rex and Phonox. A central figure of the modern nu-disco and house scene, Kapote brings the label's first New York open-air to Brooklyn.
