Stripped-back minimal techno, hypnotic rolling grooves with a Detroit funk edge
Magda is a Detroit-raised, Berlin-based DJ and producer regarded as one of the defining voices of minimal techno. Born Magdalena Chojnacka in Poland and immersed in Detroit's underground as a teenager, she joined Richie Hawtin's Minus label in 1998 and spent years touring as his opening DJ. Her patchwork mixing style crystallized on landmark mix albums including She's A Dancing Machine (2006, Minus) and Fabric 49 (2009), alongside her debut artist album From The Fallen Page (2010, Minus) and a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. She co-founded the Items & Things label with Marc Houle and Troy Pierce, and more recently performs modular live sets as Blotter Trax with T.B. Arthur. A veteran of Time Warp, Movement, and Awakenings and a longtime fixture at clubs such as fabric, Watergate, and DC-10, Magda remains a benchmark for stripped-back, groove-driven techno.
