About

Satoshi Tomiie is a Japanese-born, New York-based DJ, producer, and label boss who has been a driving force in house music since the late 1980s. His 1989 debut single Tears, co-produced with Frankie Knuckles for FFRR, became an instant club anthem and placed him at the heart of the Def Mix and underground house worlds. He has released across labels including Strictly Rhythm, Global Underground, No.19 Music, and Yoyaku, runs his own Abstract Architecture imprint, and more recently records stripped-back, hypnotic material as SATO. A student of jazz and classical piano, he has headlined clubs from Pacha Ibiza and Tokyo's WOMB to New York's Public Records, and plays regularly at DC10, Rex, and festivals across Europe, the Americas, and Japan. In recent years he has moved toward an all-hardware live setup, making his live debut at Dekmantel Festival in 2025. Decades on, his deep, rolling sets remain a fixture among today's underground elite.
