Takuya Nakamura

A Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist blending live jazz trumpet with jungle and electronica.

Takuya Nakamura is a Tokyo born, Brooklyn based trumpeter, keyboardist and producer whose sound sits at the intersection of jazz and jungle. He moved to the United States in 1990 to study under jazz theorist George Russell at the New England Conservatory, then settled in New York in the mid 1990s, where he became a fixture of the city's jazz and jungle circuits. His catalog includes the 2018 EP Spacetak on Codek Records and the 2024 album Caged Bird Flying, and he has performed and recorded with Quincy Jones, Lee Scratch Perry, GZA, Cocorosie and Jojo Mayer's Nerve. Under the alias Space Tak, he built a recurring Cosmic Jungle party and a regular residency on Brooklyn's The Lot Radio, pairing live trumpet with breakbeat driven jungle and electronic selections. Three decades into his career, he remains one of the clearest bridges between live jazz instrumentation and the jungle revival.
