About

Brooklyn-based producer blending Jamaican dancehall and Detroit techno for queer club spaces.

Dion McKenzie, known as Tygapaw, is a Jamaican born and Brooklyn based multidisciplinary artist whose work operates at the intersection of techno, dancehall, and experimental electronic music. Their practice centers Black queer and trans voices, utilizing complex hardware to create intense, emotionally charged soundscapes that challenge dominant cultural structures. Notable releases include the debut album Get Free (2020, N.A.A.F.I.), the follow up Love Has Never Been A Popular Movement (2023, Fabric Originals), and the 2025 EP IMMIGRANT (Tresor). Beyond production, they founded the Fake Accent label and club night to provide platforms for marginalized artists within the New York underground. Their sound is characterized by a raw, percussive energy that fuses Caribbean rhythmic heritage with the driving, industrial aesthetics of contemporary techno.
