Yvonne Turner is a foundational DJ, producer, and remixer who played a crucial role in shaping the early house music scene in New York City. Born in Harlem, she began her career in the late 1970s playing weekly parties in Flatbush and drawing deep inspiration from David Mancuso's The Loft. Turner is widely recognized for her pioneering studio work, including her dub mix of Colonel Abrams' "Music Is The Answer" in 1984 and her Latin jazz-infused remix of Willie Colón's "Set Fire To Me" in 1986. She also delivered the official remix for Whitney Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" in 1990, cementing her reputation for soulful, groove-driven vocal house. After a hiatus to teach elementary school, she has returned to the studio and the DJ booth, recently performing at venues like Public Records, Good Room, and Berghain for the Your Love party series. As a vital architect of classic club sounds, Turner continues to reclaim her legacy while mentoring a new generation of dance music talent.
