DJ Lag

Electronic

HEADLINER

Hailing from the Clermont township in Durban, South Africa, DJ Lag is a foundational architect of gqom, the dark and percussive electronic genre that emerged from the city in the early 2010s. His production style centers on raw, broken beats and heavy basslines, a sound he refined through early experiments with Fruity Loops and local club culture. Signature releases include his 2016 self-titled EP on Goon Club Allstars, the 2019 Uhuru EP, and his 2022 debut album Meeting with the King, which integrated elements of amapiano and afro-tech. He has collaborated with artists such as Beyoncé, Tierra Whack, and Okzharp, while maintaining a consistent presence at global venues like Fabric London, DC10 in Ibiza, and festivals including Glastonbury and Afropunk. By bridging the gap between Durban township roots and international electronic circuits, he remains a vital ambassador for South African dance music.
