Shades is the collaborative bass project of Alix Perez and EPROM, launched in 2015. Perez, born Alex Depauw in Charleroi, Belgium and based in London, made his name in drum and bass on Shogun Audio and his own 1985 Music, while Portland's EPROM shaped a distinctive strain of West Coast midtempo and experimental bass. The pair met producing Foreign Beggars' Modus EP at Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles and started Shades as an outlet for slower, left-field bass. Their catalog runs from the 2015 self-titled EP on Alpha Pup to the albums In Praise of Darkness on Deadbeats in 2018 and From A Vein on 1985 Music in 2022. On stage they pair eerie drum breaks, celestial synths and heavy sub-bass drawn largely from their own productions, with a landmark set at Noisia Invites in 2019. Shades remains one of the most singular collaborations in contemporary bass music.

Sir Sypro

Karl Joseph, known professionally as Sir Spyro, is a pioneering grime and dubstep DJ, producer, and radio presenter from East London. He built his reputation during a twelve-year residency on Rinse FM before taking over the Grime Show on BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2017. As a producer, he is responsible for defining genre anthems like the 2016 Deep Medi Musik release "Topper Top" featuring Teddy Bruckshot, Lady Chann, and Killa P, alongside mainstream hits like Stormzy's "Big for Your Boots." His sound bridges the raw energy of pirate radio with heavy low end and polished club production. Recent activity includes the 2026 "2nd SQ" EP on Deep Medi Musik and performances at venues like Drumsheds in London and The Black Box in Denver. Sir Spyro remains a foundational pillar of UK bass culture, consistently pushing the boundaries of grime while anchoring its most vital traditions.

Vanfleet

Dubstep

Vanfleet is Kendall Vanfleet, a bass music producer, voice actor and visual artist based in Washington, DC. His output moves across dubstep, drum and bass and deconstructed club, favoring intricate, experimental sound design over straight-ahead formulas. He made his solo debut with the single Kilroy in 2019 and released his debut EP Starlift on Cyclops Recordings in 2023. He is active across the US bass circuit. Vanfleet stands out for a restless, genre-crossing approach within heavy bass.
