Juan Maclean

House

HEADLINER

Based in Brooklyn, John MacLean operates as a foundational figure within the New York City electronic scene and the DFA Records roster. His work frequently bridges the gap between post-punk sensibilities and dancefloor-oriented house, techno, and disco. Signature releases include the seminal 2009 dancefloor track Happy House and the 2014 full-length album In A Dream, both released on DFA Records. Often collaborating with vocalist Nancy Whang, his production style utilizes vintage synthesizers and drum machines to create a sound that feels both nostalgic and contemporary. He maintains a rigorous international touring schedule, having performed at venues such as Panorama Bar in Berlin and Fabric in London. MacLean remains a vital presence in modern club culture by consistently prioritizing quality selection and room-reading intuition over rigid genre adherence.

His production work includes the 2020 EP Ocean Walk on Superior Elevation and the 2023 EP Dream in Colour on Klasse Wrecks, both of which showcase his penchant for analog hardware and atmospheric textures. In 2025, he launched his own imprint, Free Universe, debuting with the EP It's A Feeling. Beyond his solo output, he is one half of the ambient live act Infinity Machine alongside The Juan MacLean and a member of the Earth Beat collective.
