Black Rave Culture

This Washington D.C. trio revolutionizes club music, blending diverse styles to celebrate Black electronic music origins.

Black Rave Culture is a Washington D.C. based trio composed of Amal, James Bangura, and Nativesun. Formed in 2020 amidst the global pandemic and Black Lives Matter protests, the collective emerged with a mission to reclaim and celebrate the Black origins of electronic dance music. Their sound is an innovative, genre-blending fusion, drawing from house, techno, footwork, two-step, dub, and baile funk, alongside UK-bass and sound system influences, often incorporating elements from Detroit, New York City, Jersey, and Baltimore. They released their debut album, "Black Rave Culture," in 2021 on Haus of Altr, followed by "Black Rave Culture Vol. 2" in 2022 and "Black Rave Culture Vol 3" in 2023. The trio has embarked on transatlantic tours, performing in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, and Germany, and at festivals such as Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival. Black Rave Culture stands out by consistently pushing the lineage of Black dance music forward through their high-energy, rhythm-focused productions and performances.
