Porter Robinson is one of the few artists from the EDM boom who genuinely grew into something much more personal, ambitious, and artist-driven than the scene that first made him famous. He broke out early on with aggressive electro-house records, but the real reason he matters is how hard he pivoted after that. Worlds became a generation-shaping record because it pulled anime emotion, indie sensibility, synth-pop melody, and festival-scale electronic production into something that felt deeply personal rather than just functional. From there, he kept refusing to stay in one box, whether through the euphoric melancholy of Nurture, the high-concept rave maximalism of Virtual Self, or the more playful, self-aware turn of SMILE! :D.
