Shaun J. Wright

Shaun J. Wright

Techno

Shaun J. Wright is a DJ, producer, and vocalist originally from the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, whose work is deeply rooted in the city's foundational house and juke scenes. After developing their skills in the vogue ballroom community and earning a master's degree in fashion curation in London, Wright relocated to New York City, where they spent three years (2008–2011) touring and recording as a vocalist for Hercules and Love Affair, featuring prominently on the ensemble's sophomore album Blue Songs. Returning to Chicago in 2012, Wright launched the Twirl event series and record label alongside DJ and producer Alinka, releasing collaborative EPs like Twirl Vol. 1 (2013, Classic Music Company) and Journey Into The Deep (2014, Twirl Records). Wright's solo and collaborative discography spans labels such as Crosstown Rebels, where they released the Face the Truth EP with Alinka in 2016, as well as BPitch Control and Defected, characterized by a sound that weaves classic Chicago house, acid, and deep techno with their own live, emotive vocals. A longstanding resident at Chicago's Smartbar, Wright maintains an active international touring schedule, with recent appearances at Berlin's Panorama Bar, Detroit's Movement Music Festival, and the Renaissance World Tour, where they provided the pre-show playlist for Beyoncé's Chicago stop.
